Apple co-founder Steve Jobs resigned as CEO, the company announced on Wednesday (24.08.2011). He founded Apple when he was 21 and built into the world’s largest technology giant.
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know.”
“Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
“I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you”-Steve Jobs said.
As Apple CEO he earned only $1 a year, but he holds 5,426 million company’s shares as well as 138 million shares in Disney. His wealth is estimated at more than £3 billion.

Steve Jobs founded Apple in his garage in 1976 with friends Steve Wozniak, Ronald Wayne and Mike Makkula. Since then he has presided over the launch of Apple’s iconic products and has seen the company top the list in share value.
Apple now stands as the most valuable company in the U.S. with a market cap of $337billion.
