Lil Wayne Talks About How The Hip-Hop Industry Is Different In Vibe Magazine October/November issue. For the magazine cover Lil Wayne decided that it was time for him to channel his inner Jimi Hendrix for his style. During the interview with the magazine Lil Wayne talks about how peaceful the hip-hop industry is today compared to how it was in the past.
He starts off talking about how everyone in the industry is happy just to be doing music. “There’s no competition [with any artists]. Music isn’t about competition no more. All the gangster rappers are happy, all the skateboard rappers are happy, all the white rappers are happy. Everybody just happy to do music these days.”
Lil Wayne continues to say that the “old rappers” are the ones who liked competition. “There are no problems. That sh– died a long time ago with them old-ass rappers. We are just making music, making money and having fun. Feeding our families. Competition is for the old guys.”
It’s good to see that many rappers are calmed down and there are hardly any more legal issues between them. It would be great if artists like Foxy Brown Mooning Charges would get the picture and stop getting in trouble with the law.
Lil Wayne also decided to give his opinion about the recent riots that occurred last month (August) in London, tell the magazine, All you could do is pray for the people that were dealing with the situation and hope for the best. As far as them blaming hip-hop, you can blame Jesus for things, so you can’t really fault anybody for blaming someone or something. All you can do is hope for the best.”
In other news, Lil Wayne found out that he has been nominated for 18 BET Hip Hop Awards and that is far more nominations than anyone else. Some of the categories that he has been nominated in are Best Live Performer, MVP of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Track of the Year, Best Club Banger, Best Featured Verse and Hustler of the Year. Other high numbered rappers are Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa, whom both scored 9 nominations each.
