Gay marriage supporters: Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood for GQ magazine.
With their hot new movie J. Edgar hitting the theaters November 9, Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood are opening-up about their own personal politics.
The two icons expressed their frustration with people who obsess over trying to ban gay marriage, as they sat down with GQ to promote their upcoming movie.
“That’s the most infuriating thing, watching people focus on these things (gay marriage). Meanwhile, there’s the onset of global warming and these incredibly scary and menacing things with the future of our economy.”-the ‘Inception’ star Leonardo DiCaprio said.
As for Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, he explained why he calls himself a social libertarian.
“These people who are making a big deal about gay marriage? I don’t give a f**k about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of. Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want.”-he said.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s gay marriage support is not entirely surprising, because he’s always aligned himself with Democratic beliefs. In 2004, he campaigned for John Kerry, and then in 2008, he pledged $2,300 towards Obama‘s campaign.
However Clint Eastwood’s open support for gay marriage is a little more interesting, however, because he was (at one point in time) a registered Republican. But as years pass by, his opinion changed, and now he is a libertarian and pro-choice believer.
