Country singer Chely Wright has married her girlfriend Lauren Bitzer just 15 months after coming out. Both brides wore strapless, floor-length, white wedding dresses.
Chely and Lauren, a gay rights activist, have dated for more than a year, The newlyweds met two weeks after the singer came out in 2010.
Over 200 people, attended the wedding ceremony, which took place at Blitzer’s aunt’s home in Connecticut on Saturday. The couple was married by both a minister and a rabbi because Wright is Christian and Blitzer is Jewish.
Both brides Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer decided not to wear veils and explained:
“We like our hair too much.”
When it came to the reception menu, Wright who is a vegetarian, admitted she had to compromise a bit. The couple served barbecue from New York’s Blue Smoke to their more than 200 guests.
